Howard Park, one of Western Australia’s pioneering wine families with a 30 year history and two generations of tireless work of the Burch family, they specialise in the state’s premier grape-growing regions of Margaret River and the Great Southern. They are also part of Australia’s First Families of Wine (AFFW), an exciting collective of 12 multi-generational family-owned wine producers.

Winemaker Janice McDonald and the family are still celebrating after winning Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year for 2018. Peter Forrestal, of Gourmet Traveller said “Janice McDonald is an astounding winemaker: demanding of herself and others; rigorous; painstaking in her attention to detail.”

Critical site selection & meticulous viticultural care has gone into this wine and pays homage to significant members of the Burch family .. this being named after Walter Abercrombie, Jeff Burch’s great-grandfather.

The Abercrombie is now the name of the original Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon, which started life in 1986. Each year it is a blend of the top fruit produced from the Leston vineyard in Margaret River, & the Abercrombie vineyard in Mount Barker, Great Southern. The wine is crafted with longevity in mind, & has a cellaring potential of 20 years.

This is the 29th release of this wine and is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon selected from both the Leston Vineyard (29 year old vines) in Margaret River and the Abercrombie Vineyard (43 year old vines) in Mount Barker, and reflects a desire to offer a complete expression of variety, provenance and vintage from our best sites in these two phenomenal winegrowing regions.

Winemaker notes .. “A youthful ruby red in colour with purple hues. The bouquet is a mix of fresh berry fruits and sweet toasted oak. Rich in classic Cabernet notes of sweet blackberry and blackcurrant, rubbed dry herbs and soft cocoa and mocha spice, the palate’s opulence is shaped by a fine tannin structure and bright acidity. This wine is definitively Cabernet – fine, pure and perfumed, with great length of flavour, balance and poise.”
