torzi matthews vigna cantina sangiovese 2008 new arrival at the vine press

Torzi Matthews Vigna Cantina Sangiovese 2008 has just arrived in our cellars at The Vine Press and what an impressive drop!

Here’s a great review for Gary Walsh at Winefront:    “Interesting wine this one: it says more about the Barossa and Domenic Torzi than it does of Sangiovese, but that’s no bad thing. And it’s priced to get the turnstiles spinning. I asked Mattinson to open this earlier today, so will be interested to hear a second opinion.

Opens with a good sniff of sexy-time vanilla custard oak and rich cherry fruit but left for a day to air out it reveals further nuance – dried cherry, pot pourri, mint and some leather. It’s medium bodied, sweetly and deliciously red fruited with a dollop of vanilla custard – the tannins smooth and pliant initially, but grippy nontheless and there’s acidity that’s not unlike biting into a fresh strawberry which I often describe as being “pippy”. A difficult wine to rate in many respects – some will love it, others will not – but either way there’s no questioning that it’s a quality wine.”   Rated : 90 Points Gary Walsh from Winefront.
