Description

Howard Park, one of Western Australia’s pioneering wine families with a 30 year history and two generations of tireless work of the Burch family, they specialise in the state’s premier grape-growing regions of Margaret River and the Great Southern. They are also part of Australia’s First Families of Wine (AFFW), an exciting collective of 12 multi-generational family-owned wine producers.

Winemaker Janice McDonald and the family are still celebrating after winning Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year for 2018. Peter Forrestal of Gourmet Traveller said  “Janice McDonald is an astounding winemaker: demanding of herself and others; rigorous; painstaking in her attention to detail.”

Margaret River is Australia’s most spectacular wine region with breathtaking coastline, Karri forests and maritime climate perfectly suited to premium grape growing.  100% estate grown fruit at Howard Park ensures quality… beautiful wines with depth of fruit, balance and structure that overdeliver across the board.

The temperate maritime region of Margaret River stretches a north to south distance of 100kms. Bound by oceans on three sides, subtle climatic and site differences exist over the five physiographic regions and fifteen diverse land form systems that comprise the region. From this diversity of locations an extensive array in varietal expression of Sauvignon Blanc proliferate.

Each individual vineyard block that contributes to the Miamup Sauvignon Blanc is vinified separately. Most batches are cool fermented in stainless steel to maximize varietal character and fruit flavour. Special batches are hand-picked, whole fruit pressed and fermented in oak to add complexity and texture. Alcohol: 13%

“Aromas of citrus, some gooseberry, elderflower and lemon scented herbs suggest a varietal purity, and delicacy in this wine. The palate retains this same fine fruit expression as a soft lemon curd richness adds dimension and texture. A fine balance is retained as the gentle citrus like acidity gives length and crispness to finish.” Winemaker, Janice MacDonald.

95 points Toni Patterson MW, Top Ranked Sauvignon from Margaret River, Real Review Tasting, February 2019 “Highly-perfumed with lemon top notes, fresh peas and a little cut grass. The palate is zippy and bright with excellent persistence, plus a touch of subtle savouriness from a little time in oak. More-ish and delicious. ”

93 points, James Halliday 2019 Wine CompanionFrom a vineyard in the southern part of Margaret River, and ‘spent a few moments in oak’ according to the back label. It’s generous, and filled with tree fruits on the expressive bouquet that feeds into the textured palate. Here white peach and lemon sherbet drive the boat, passionfruit and gooseberry coming along for the ride.”

John Fordam, The Sunday Telegraph“The popular variety’s cresendo of lively and soft flavours come bounding through along with a gentle touch of complexity resulting from time in oak. The fruit was selected from several Margaret River blocks to achieve a striking amalgam of delicious flavours and a truly satisfying finish.”
