Description
Crawford River wines from Henty in South Western Victoria are crafted exclusively from hand-picked and selected fruit grown at their estate vineyard, whereupon they are vinified and bottled on site. The fruit is brought to the winery in small parcels, where meticulous attention is paid to detail. Patience and time are of the essence in their winery.
From the winery: “In spite of our continued enjoyment in making our traditional Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend, we thought a slight change of pace was timely for a proportion of the fruit. Cielo translates as sky or heaven in Spanish, reflecting Belinda’s many years making wine in northern Spain.
The wine consists of 100% barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc, fermented with naturally occurring yeasts in predominantly old oak. The small percentage of new wood used, is in the form of a “cigar shaped” cask, which is made longer and slimmer than a traditional barrique in order to increase and enhance lees contact. The wine is aged on lees for approximately 12 months before blending to tank for settling, prior to bottling in September.
This is the second edition to Belinda’s Cielo and as she learns the nuances of the vineyard with this style it can only improve.
2013 was another fabulous year in the vineyard at Crawford River. We are delighted with this delicious wine which is an eloquent reflection of our taut, complex, elegant style. Lifted blossoms of apple and limes abound on the nose, together with undertones of stone and shell-like characters. The full, well defined front palate of white nectarine and pithy grapefruit is followed by a tightly focussed, finely textured palate with notes of flint, subtle spices and limes. A creamy elegance pervades the soft back palate whilst linear, yet supple acidity aids a lingering finish with excellent persistence.”
