Description
Vigna di Gino named after Natalino’s father, ‘Gino’, and planted with the carefully selected clones his father spent a lifetime studying. Natalino, together with his mother, Vera Biondini, manages the vineyards which are situated in Montecarotto where Natalino was born and bred and in the nearby communes Ostra, Ostra Venere e Corinaldo. Natalino lives on the estate with his wife, son, mother and the numerous farm animals. His family has been making wine since the early 1600’s and this wine is named as a tribute to his father, Gino.
Made from 100% estate grown fruit, this is from Castelli di Jesi, the best area for the Verdicchio variety, located in the larger region of Le Marche on the Adriatic coast of Italy. Winemaker Natalino Crognaletti farms organically with biodynamic practices and specializes in Verdicchio.. has vines averaging 30 years with some up to 100 years old which give his wines incredible concentration. Handpicked fruit, wild yeasts, everything done by hand to preserve the plants, soil and overall ecosystem and vineyard environment. Fattoria San Lorenzo was recently awarded the 2011 Chiocciola, the highest honor from Slow Food International’s Slow Wine guide for outstanding efforts in the area of sustainable viticulture and winemaking! Bravo. In the winery: wild yeast, 6 months on yeast lees some malolactic fermentaion
Extraordinary depth and layers of exotic stone fruit, melon, citrus, ground nuts, spice with more-ish texture balanced by refreshing line of acidity. If you are knew to verdicchio it reminds me of a fine Pinot Grigio meets a chardonnay with an exotic twist. Year in, year out it is up there with the finest quality and value verdicchio we have seen.
