If you should visit La Morra, there are two locations you shouldn’t miss, both perched on the top of this Langhe hill. One is the stunning view from the top of the town with sweeping views of Barolo DOCG, and the other, on the main square, is the Marcarini winery that dates back to the 1700’s. Luisa Marcarini and Manuel Marchetti have been in charge of Luisa’s family winery since 1990, with Luisa orchestrating the wines with consultant oenologist Armando Cordero and Manuel in charge of marketing. The Marcarini’s were the first in the area to designate a single vineyard on their label (1958 Brunate) and their 150 year old Boschi di Berri Dolcetto vineyard is the oldest in Italy, having survived phylloxera and maintained indigenous rootstock. The Marcarini style is poised between classic and modern, history and hi tech and the wines are characterised by a voluptuous, embracing style that complements the region’s traditional austerity and blockbuster structure.
Made from Moscato Bianco from a century old property at Sergentin in the commune of Neviglie. Low in alcohol (5.5%) with the varieties natural sweetness retained, the wine foams when poured to remain frizzante on the palate with a refreshing grapey finish. Great with creamy desserts, fruit, pastries and at breakfast!
Enjoy this wonderful tasting note from the winery! “Moscato d’Asti is an extraordinary sweet-aromatic dessert wine, slightly sparkling, unique in the world and pride of our land. The vine is the ancient white Moscato of Piedmont, already known in Roman times, today lovingly cultivated in our vineyards of the “Cascina Sargentin”, an area highly suited for this particular variety.
The color is bright straw yellow , with delicate greenish reflections. A delicate white froth results in a very fine and very stable perlage. The aromatic, floral and fruity bouquet is ample, intense and lasting. The taste, pleasantly sweet, fresh due to the moderate alcohol content and the right balance between flavor and acidity, is soft and rich in musky sensations typical of Muscat grapes; the aromatic persistence is very long and intense. Dessert wine par excellence, it goes well with fresh and baked pastries, filled cakes, the classic panettone and fruit. It is the wine of happiness and friendship.”
90 points, James Suckling “This is floral with notes of jasmine, orchid blossom, sliced apples and dried herbs. Medium-bodied, fresh and cheerful. Medium sweet and creamy. “
