Description
Kumeu River, northwest of Auckland is without a doubt one of NZ’s finest wine producers … their chardonnays are world renowned.
Made by Master of Wine Michael Brajkovich from sustainably grown Pinot Gris grapes that are hand-harvested and sorted in our Kumeu Vineyards then gently whole-bunch pressed. Fermented using local wild yeast with extended maturation on the yeast lees.
About this wine from the winemaker: “The Pinot Gris vineyards we have in Kumeu are producing grapes of high quality consistently that allow us to make wine that is rich, complex and delicious. The wild yeast fermentation took place in tanks over an extended period. The aromas have typical peach and stone fruit notes tinged with the floral perfume that we have come to expect from Pinot Gris. On the palate the wine is rich and complex with a lively texture on the palate. Pinot Gris is a variety that goes particularly well with food, including quite intensely flavoured dishes. It is also one of the few wine styles that can handle the spiciness of chilli, so together with the sweet succulence of prawns, a nicely chilled bottle of Kumeu River Pinot Gris makes up a spectacular combination.”
The 2023 vintage has just arrived … We love the racy ‘Grigio’ style freshness and depth of fruit. This is really great quality for the price!
Review of 2019 … 93 points, The Real Review, Bob Campbell MW “A cleverly crafted offering from Michael Brajkovich, rich, complex and wonderfully textural, with defined peach and floral aromas and long, clean fruit flavours supported by hints of spice and almond.”
