An exceptional north facing site, limestone hills slope down to clay, the perfect combination for growing wines with minerality and concentration.

2021 release is here and what a beauty it is.. we think it’s their finest chardonnay release thus far
From the winemaker: “.. A great year for Chardonnay in North Canterbury, an early warm spring came without frost followed by good flowering. A gentle Autumn allowed even ripening before harvest. Organically managed, the combination of undervine cultivation & fewer irrigation cycles has driven the Chardonnay roots deep into the soil.
“Our Chardonnay is a blend of two main vineyard blocks. One block is limestone dominant, while the other is clay. The two clones, Mendoza & Clone 95, flourish differently in both blocks. Mendoza is the cornerstone of our Chardonnay. The clone is known for its small, open grape bunches, intense fruit-driven flavours and chalky minerality.
“We hand-picked our Chardonnay blocks and processed without the use of additives. We pressed our Limestone block as whole bunches and pressed our Clay block after foot crushing. Each block was fermented separately in French oak barriques without intervention, allowing the wild yeasts and bacteria to perform primary and malo-lactic fermentation through to completion. Barrel aged for 10 months before estate bottled without fining.
“Pale lemon in colour with aromas of ripe nectarine and pink grapefruit. Toasted almonds and bran appear with some fine blossom too. Rich mouth-feel with exotic spice and lemon pith, balanced with a lengthy mineral spine.”
This fine 2021 release cleaned up with 97 pt rating and Multiple Trophies at International Wine Challenge 2023 including Trophy Best Canterbury Chardonnay ;Trophy Best New Zealand Chardonnay; Trophy Best New Zealand White; Trophy Best Organic White. “Focused with complex layers of nutty, toasty hop notes. Impressive backbone and
structure with a touch of beeswax and citrus peel flavours. Savoury finish. Bone dry too.”
95 points and Outstanding, Cameron Douglas MS “An almost perfect bouquet with a seductive aroma of mineral and pre white fleshed fruits, flowers and fresh yoghurt, red apple and baking spices. There’s mystery and charm as much as there is finesse and purity. On the palate a lovely medium+ weight with a satin smooth touch, contrasting acid line and flavours that mirror the bouquet. Complex and legthy with a mineral chalk quality. Best drink from late 2023 through 2029.”
93 points, Bob Campbell MW “Mellow, creamy chardonnay with grapefruit, lemon curd, apple and oyster shell. Impressive wine with subtle power and energy. Bone-dry but nicely balanced with a lengthy finish. Good now but should develop well with a little bottle age. 03 JAN 2023.” Drink 2023 – 2029
