Description

Father and son team Jean Hugues and Guilhem Goisot are fanatical about their certified biodynamic vineyards. Located in the Yonne region of France (a few kms south west of Chablis) their wines are everything you‘d expect from a great Chablis for a fraction of the price. Leading authority on Burgundy. Allen Meadows of Burghound said “No one but no one delivers more quality for the price than Goisot. The quality is flat out amazing.. “

Biodynamic. Single vineyard Chardonnay. La Gondonne lies on denser soils of blue clay, marl and limestone. Here the vines are a massale selection made from cuttings taken from the Les Clos holdings of the Raveneau and Dauvissat families that have close ties with the Goisot clan. In Gondonne, you find lots of the Exogyra Virgula fossils (small, comma shaped, limestone fossils) so famous in the Yonne area. It’s a superb site that typically produces the most complex, kaleidoscopic wine of the three single vineyard releases. It is also the most structured wine in the cellar. The Goisot family feel that this is the closest that the Côtes d’Auxerre gets to the Le Clos grand cru of Chablis, which is why they planted the cuttings from this famous Chablis site here. Early days here as you might imagine from such a terroir and yet the wine is already delicious. So perfumed and lifted in the mouth with lemon drop, brine and yellow plum fruit and a driven, tangy close. Upright and focused, with vigour and purity, this tells you exactly the part of France in which it was reared.

90 points, Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate  “The 2015 Bourgogne Cotes d’Auxerre Gondonne was bottled at the end of May. Here we have a more resinous bouquet than Goisot’s other cuvées, with hints of melted candle wax, orange blossom, orange liqueur and rosewater. The palate is very well balanced with a keen thread of acidity and again, like the nose, quite resinous and more a textural wine than one that doles out all the fruit. It segues into a slightly austere, backward finish, so afford it 12 months in bottle.”

Super fine white Burgundy here .. ages incredibly well too..
