“Lalou Bize-Leroy stands alone at the top of Burgundy’s quality hierarchy. Because she is a perfectionnist, and because she has had the courage to produce wines from low yield and bottle them naturelly, without fining or filtration” Robert Parker
“It is almost impossible to put into words the significance of Madame Lalou Bize Leroy and her Domaine Leroy estate in the world of wine.” Clive Coates MW poses the rhetorical question “Is this the greatest estate in Burgundy? ” and answers How do you determine great? Is it size? Is it quality? Is it price? Is it reputation? Is it the amount of media cover age? However, you do compute it, the greatest domaines of Burgundy today must be those under the control of Lalou Bize, The Domaine Leroy and her own Domaine d ‘Auvenay. The estates of Jadot, Faiveley and Bouchard Pere et Fils are far larger, that of Romani Conti the most splendid in terms of percentage of grand terroir but for nobility of it ‘s wines, pride of place must go to Leroy and to Domaine d ‘Auvenay. The sheer concentration. depth and intensity that Lalou Bize manages to squeeze into her bottles is breathtaking. ”
Domaine Leroy has been cultivated biodynamically since 1989 and specializes in making wines from vineyards with the lowest yields in Burgundy, producing tiny quantities of high-priced Grand and Premier Cru wines. Lalou Bize –Leroy is still a quarter owner of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti.
This is no ordinary Bourgogne blanc… From winery: “Despite the severely reduced yields from the frost-ravaged 2016 vintage, Lalou Bize-Leroy, has produced a superb Maison Leroy Bourgogne Blanc. Ripe, open, pretty nose of white flowers, peach, citrus and honey, with hints of nutmeg and wet stone. A honeyed texture and plenty of fruit and mineral input. A sense of succulence continues through the piquant, mouth-watering finish.”
