For the past four generations. the Vietti family has been producing wine in Castiglione Falletto. a small village in the heart of the Langhe region of Piedmont. from their vineyards located across the five communes designated for the cultivation and production of Barolo. Over recent years Luca Currado Vietti had taken over the winemaking direction from his late father Alfredo. The overall objective. to produce the highest quality wines. whilst retaining respect for the traditions of the specific appellations.
For some years now. as Vietti have extended their Scarrone vineyard plantings. on the slope immediately below the Vietti Cantina in Castiglione Falletto. they have been producing two Barbera d ™Alba wines. The Barbera d ™Alba Scarrone Vigna Vecchia is. as its name suggests. from the older vines. average 80 years of age. The newer plantings (between 10 and 60 years of age). go into the Barbera d ™Alba Scarrone followed by 14 mths in cask old Slovenian. Gorgeous wine need a little time and plenty of air if drinking now
