Luca Currado took over as winemaker at Vietti from his late father Alfredo (married Luciana Vietti whose family grew grapes. made wine and had winery in Castligione Falletto) and Luca ™s brother in law Mario Cordero is responsible for sales and marketing. Luca ™s wife Elena Penna assists with administration and public relations. Each family member is closely linked to the overall objective. to produce the highest quality wines. whilst retaining respect for the traditions of the specific appellations. Vineyard acquisitions primarily during the 1980s and 1990s. across the Barolo communes and in Asti. have seen the total Vietti holdings grow to 32 hectares. Luca Currado Vietti is not looking to increase production. but rather to achieve better control over fruit quality. and over winemaking and with their new winery.
This is the oldest family owned winery in Barolo (located in mediavel town of Castiglione Falletto) that goes back 5 generations with their first wine going back to 1873 and Luca pays tribute to his father Alfredo Currado for his foresight in acquiring the top vineyard sites because he says now prices of prime vineyard are ridiculous ! They have an extraordinary 15 out of total 20 Grand Cru sites in all 12 Communes of Barolo which is key to the extraordinary quality of their wines including their entry level Perbacco which could be labelled Barolo and is as good as many producers serious Barolo at twice the price! . The charming Luca is a seriously talented winemaker.. he is passionate. dedicated and was one of the first to experiment with pre ferment cold maceration on Nebbiolo and barbera and also with batonage lees stirring by hand in red wines . His style of winemaking is modern traditional and as Nicholas Belfrage MW coins ˜ Vietti Enlightened Traditionalism.. saying the series of labels on the Vietti wines seem to promise something old but new. rustic yet sophisticated with a gentle sense of humour
2010 was a great season in Piedmont heralded as the vintage of a generation 100% Barbera from vineyards in Aglioni in Asti. 4800 vines per hectare. Maturation in French and Slovenian oak for 14 months.
