Turners Crossing. planted by Paul Jenkins in 1999 and named after the local farmers crossing at Loddon River in Victoria ‘s Bendigo in the late 1800s. Much celebrated and zealous winemaker. Sergio Carlei was so impressed with the consistent quality and balance of fruit produced on the vineyard (warm days to ripen fruit and cool nights impart vibrancy/freshness and savoury more ish leather/tarriness in the flavour spectrum) that he was quick to strike up a business partnership with Paul to create Turners Crossing wines. The vineyard ‘s unique red sandy clay soils over limestone (like the Coonawarra) provide great drainage and high ph ideal for vines to access all the trace elements and minerals needed in the soils which translates to consistency of quality. Low yields and much care and attention use of organic fertilisers and dry mediteranean summers means minimal disease pressure and no need for chemical sprays in the vineyard.
Cabernet sauvignon consistently excels in the Turners Crossing vineyard and similarly this 2003 on release was tight and structured and needed bottle age to soften so the fruit could rise and shine.
Beautiful lifted nose of cassis and tobacco leaf. rich mouthfilling black fruits. hint of dark chocolate. followed by more ish fine grained tannins of cuban cigar. This cracking cabernet offers prime drinking now after 8 years bottle age. James Halliday wrote of this wine back in 2006 “Simply needs another 5 years. ” …. So the wait is over! This wine is so full of life and will go easily another 2 years. Do not miss out on our Quality and value Cabernet of the Year! Stock is limited
94 points James Halliday ” …Once again. excellent colour. medium to fullbodied. firm blackcurrant/cassis fruit and firm but controlled tannins in support. Simply needs another 5 years. ”
