‘Pete and his partner Magali Gely operate what I think is the best new wave of small scale Barossa wine companies to emerge at the beginning of the 21st century These weren ™t big. blockbuster. showy wines designed to impress. They were wines that managed to take the best of the Barossa ™s sometimes forgotten varietal traditions and fuse them onto a very European flavour sensibility. ‘ Max Allen. The future makers
‘It seems that Spinifex wines can do no wrong. ‘ Campbell Mattinson. The Wine Front.
A classic style rose with subtle and discreet aromatics of raspberry. rose petals. strawberries. quince. and savoury spice. The palate is bone dry with flavours ranging through cherry. red currents. savouriness and a refreshing dryness from acidity and fine tannins. The blend this year is 62 per cent Grenache. 24 per cent Mataró. 8 per cent Cinsault. 3 per cent Ugni Blanc and 3 per cent Vermentino.
Winemaker. Pete Schell. likens the style of the ™13 as closer to the rosé wines of the Mediterranean coast and Côte d ™Azur rather than inland Provence. In response to the powerful nature of his red fruit in ™13 Pete reduced the proportion of rosé fermented and matured sur lie (in large old oak) from the typical 25 per cent to 15 per cent. Lees stirring was minimised and small proportions of Vermentino and Ugni Blanc were utilised in the blend. all with the goal of retaining freshness yet developing texture and aromatic depth . Pete Schell is one of Australia ™s most gifted winemakers and his rosé wines are simply brilliant. The ™13 is no exception.
