Description
A blend of Mataro. Grenache. Shiraz. Carignan and Cinsault. Complex aromatics of red currents. sour cherry. pomegranate and hints of freshly roasted coffee. Medium to full bodied. fresh dry palate with layers of intense red fruit. dried herbs and spice flavours. Lingering finish with a firm tight structure. At a previous tasting. Pete Schell. winemaker. declared that if he could only ever make one wine again. this would be it. he ™d die a happy man . Like the name says. it has truely captured his spirit . This Esprit has clear similarities with the 2007 vintage.
92 Points from The Wine Front Pete Schell is a hell of a solid winemaker. one of the more exciting to step out of the ˜new gen ™ of producers who source widely. seeking verity from older. finer sites. More purity and finesse in these wines than many many from other Barossa producers. Earthy. brambly red berry fruits. then a dusting of sweet spice and a whiff of pepper and rosemary. A little piquancy in the aromatics translates itself to the front and back palate. but in judicious measures it produces lift and freshness. Lithe and supple in texture. there ™s some mid palate depth. with flesh and concentration of wild black berry fruits. Tannins are light. giving the wine form. without overtaking the direction. Lovely drinking. Mike Bennie. The Wine Front.
