**Trophy Best Mature Dry Red Shiraz in Show &
Top Gold Award in its class. Plus Trophy for Most Successful Exibitor 2013 Barossa Wine Show**
Sons of Eden co owners. Corey Ryan ( “cut his teeth ” as winemaker at Henschke for 10 yrs) winemaker and Simon Cowham ( ex viticulturist Yalumba) can do no wrong!
Top shelf old vine shiraz (1.5 tonne/acre) produced from their 50 year old Eden valley vineyard (500 meters above sea level gives cooler ripening season) and Moculta vineyard produces shiraz with superb aromatics. intensity and finesse. Some whole bunch fermentation ( to provide fragrance) followed by 22 mths maturation in French oak ..
This is my favourite Sons wine because of its iron fist in a velvet glove character. Decant this wine for at least two hours or cellar for 10 years! 2010 is arguably the finest vintage in the last decade in Eden Valley so do not miss out on this beauty … minuscule production of this fine drop.
95 points James Halliday 2014 Australian Wine Companion .. ” A complex. luscious wine that shows its 22 month maturation in mainly new French oak. the fruit flavours are in a black cherry and spice spectrum. the tannins plentiful but ripe. reflecting the minimal fining. ”
95 points. The Wine front Campbell Mattinson Very tight. Very fine. Clearly built for the long haul. Carries its ample tannin by maintaining a beautiful sense of momentum. Dark berries. toast. kirsch. handfuls of toasted nuts. Sweet and bitter. intense and yet quite exceptionally fine. In its youth the oak is “ just “ too prominent but given time this will be better.
