Hamelin Bay SSB 2012
The Drake Brockman family at Hamelin Bay Wines excel with this zesty blend (51% Semillon and 49% Sauvignon Blanc). From the winemaker “Citrus. lime and floral characters fill the nose. with hints fragrant herbs and vanilla in the background … shows lovely poise. elegance and balance .. with a dry mineral finish. Some barrel fermentation and wild fermentation has added complexity and texture to the palate. This wine has been a huge hit over summer such great life and lemongrass zing thanks to the Semillon component. This very classy effort is a bargain!
92 points James Halliday Australian Wine Companion “Light. bright quartz green. has distinct cut and drive from the semillon. with unsweetened lemon and grass. the sauvignon blanc coming on board to add gooseberry and lychee notes. ”
Hamelin Bay Rampant Red 2011
Margaret River in 2011 had a very early. warm dry vintage but of very high quality. the precise opposite to the disastrous wet weather of the eastern states. This fine medium to full bodied red blend of 75% Shiraz. 14% Cabernet. 11% Merlot (matured in French oak) from Margaret River goes down too easily. Rich flavours of dark fruits. cherries. tobacco leaf and spice with lush fruit and more ish fine grained tannins .. This shows the colours beautifully of yet another great season in Margaret River. Reminds me of classic Margaret River cabernet merlot. Terrific drinking up to 2018 at a bargain price! Be snappy!
93 points James Halliday Top 100 Wines for 2014 … Bright hue. a 75/14/11% blend with an expressive bouquet of spicy black and red fruits. the elegant palate with a full range of cassis. redcurrant and plum. fine grained tannins are in a precisely pitched support role. plus some cedary oak.
