You ‘ll find great purity of fruit here and graceful elegance. rather than muscle and power. They model Pinot Noir. burgundy style. to perfection. Andrew Jefford. The New France
Domaine de l ‘Arlot. with its hillside vineyards and 19th century gardens. has what many consider to be the most beautiful estate in Burgundy. Since the late 1980 ™s this producer has also been responsible for some of the prettiest red Burgundies going around. The perfume. silkiness and flickering clarity of these wines is born of the l ‘Arlot vineyards. and the Prémeaux terroir in general. Prémeaux has always stood apart from the rest of Nuits Saint Georges and made wines that are altogether more fine and elegant than those produced further North. around the town itself. L ‘Arlot brings the finesse of this terroir to the fore with their approach to wine growing and elevage. Biodynamic farming. perfect. well sorted fruit. gentle extraction and whole bunch use all play their part. Every step from vineyard to bottle is tailored to underline purity and finesse.
The appellation Côte de Nuits Villages covers vines across five villages Fixin. Brochon. Prémeaux. Comblanchien and Corgoloin. The 1.6ha Clos du Chapeau site is located in Comblanchien. south of Nuits. It ‘s a hat shaped vineyard. hence the name. Here. on the valley floor. the soil is reasonably deep and shot through with plenty of limestone gravel eroded from the hills above. Low yields of 35 hectolitres per hectare set the bar very high for this appellation while mature vines and 15 per cent whole bunch further serve to enhance perfume and structure. The wine is raised in l ™Arlot ™s bespoke oak barrels. with just 10 15 per cent new oak influence. The note below captures the wine well.
The 2010 Cote de Nuits Villages Clos du Chapeau opens with a gorgeous. striking bouquet redolent of hard candy. sweet red cherries and spices. The energy and finesse is remarkable at this level. A final burst of fruit punctuates the exuberant finish. 87 88 points. Antonio Galloni. The Wine Advocate #199
