Top 100 Wines of 2014 and included in Best Reds Under $20 James Halliday
2012 was a terrific season in the Coonawarra “ blend comprises Cabernet Sauvignon (51%). Merlot (43%) and Cabernet Franc (6%) from our Silage. Rise & Quarry vineyards. Maturation was for 16 months in seasoned french oak (30% new Dargaud & Jaegle). Love the elegance of Coonawarra cabernet and this 2012 blend is a ripper … good intensity. balance. more ish leafiness. fine grained tannins and great length.
Mid red in colour. the nose is intense with aromas of wild blackberry and liquorice combined with delicate smoky coffee French oak. The palate is medium bodied with a soft round Merlot mouth feel and black fruit flavours. This wine will reward careful cellaring. and we recommend decanting before drinking.
“93 Points. 49/ 38/ 7.5/ 5.5% cabernet sauvignon/merlot/cabernet franc/petit verdot. Matured for 14 months in French oak (21% new). The 2019 Cabernet Merlot wasn’t made, meaning the best parcels of merlot usually reserved for that cuvée have flowed into this wine. Petit verdot and cabernet franc contribute a heady perfume to the bouquet; on the palate the wine has concentrated black fruits and spice. The shapely tannins through the finish are a highlight. I’d go so far as to posit that this is currently one of the best $20 cabernet blends on the market. 14.5% alc. $20. Screwcap”- Erin Larkin, winecompanion.com.au.
