“Pierre and Francoise Santz-Clouet, and now their dashing winemaking son Jean-Francois, are the best sort of Champagne growers. Their 8ha vineyards lie on the best middle slopes of Bouzy and Ambonnay, all grand cru sites in a domaine that is just the right size for perfectionist winemaking from great grapes, while providing a comfortable living for a family that still lives in the 17th century village house built by their ancestor, a printer to Louis XV’s royal court at Versailles.“ The Finest Wines of Champagne by Michael Edwards
“It’s always puzzled me that the remarkable, terroir-expressive champagnes of André Clouet never seem to come up among the rockstar growers of Champagne. And yet on the basis of his current cuvées, I have again anointed this little grower in the grand cru village of Bouzy among the top six growers in Champagne. This of course places him among the top sparkling growers on earth. My scores rank him equal to Dom Pérignon, Louis Roederer and Taittinger. And that’s mighty company!” Tyson Stelzer
I just can’t get enough of it – especially at this price. The Andre Clouet grande reserve brut is a delicious wine made from 100 per cent pinot noir with all the richness and definition that variety offers. There’s plenty of fine bead, red fruits mingled with citrus, and earthy, warm spice (think star anise and cinnamon), zesty and dry on the finish. It builds on the palate and is quite voluptuous, almost full- bodied for champagne, and, while a richer aperitif, this is much, much better with food. Jane Faulkner, The Age Epicure
“The NV Brut Grande Reserve offers up layers of mineral-infused red fruits on a silky, mid-weight frame, with gorgeous length and a refined, subtle mousse. This impeccable, elegant wine shows terrific overall balance as well as complexity. I loved it. Andre Clouet is based in Bouzy, a village where Pinot Noir speaks with great eloquence, as is evident in these superb, pedigreed Champagnes.” ANTONIO GALLONI
“This extremely good value, all-Pinot Noir Champagne comes exclusively from grand cru vineyards. While it is packed with ripe pear and apricot fruit aromas, it is lifted by citrus and white flower notes. Complex and forward in style, with some biscuity characters and a long, persistent finish. No doubt this is one of the best value Champagnes out there.” Decanter Wine Magazine
“Release after release, year after year, I have always marvelled at the lemon blossom freshness that Clouet manages to capture in pinot noir from two of Champagne’s most powerful terroirs. Here it is again, in a captivating interplay of fleshy mirabelle plums, white peaches, crunchy golden delicious apples, and even a hint of pepper. Wild honey and mixed spice join the maelstrom along the way, gliding obediently into a well defined finish of soft minerality and integrated dosage” TYSON STELZER, The Champagne Guide 2014-2015
