ANTONIO GALLONI “A precise, crystalline wine, the NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve is the perfect wine with which to explore the Péters Champagnes. Lemon peel, white flowers and slate are super-expressive throughout in a Champagne that impresses with its finely-sculpted personality and energy. The Cuvée de Réserve is quite powerful, but never heavy. Slightly tropical overtones add the final shades of nuance. The current release is based on 2012, with 50% reserve wines dating back to 1988. The Cuvée de Réserve draws on fruit sources outside Mesnil. It remains one of the best values in artisan Champagne.”
TYSON STELZER, The Champagne Guide 2016-2017 PIERRE PETERS (9/10) “Very few champagnes more eloquently articulate their terroirs than those of Pierre Peters. On my first encounter with the young Rodolphe Peters, three hours of exploring the fruits of three decades left me mesmerised by the remarkable capacity of the chardonnay vine to extract the salty minerality of the Cotes de Blancs’ finest grand crus and preserve it in its wines for time eternal. I left with the realisation of another dimension to champagne, one in which minerality assumes a personality all of its own. And I discovered Les Chetillons, the Le Montrachet of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
60% curent vintage, 40% reserve solera from 18 vintages, grand Cru Cotes de Blancs, 6-7 g/L dosage: DIAM closure.
With all the theatrics of Peter’s masterful reserve solera, this is one of the best value aperitifs in all of Champagne. Effortlessly integrated, ravishingly poised and incisively soil-driven. It’s a wine of pronounced minerality and seamless fruit purity. The 2009 base dutifully follows the great 2008 with its pristine lemon and grapefruit, hints of fennel, wonderful mineral precision and crystalline freshness. …..a grand monument to the signature chalk minerality of the Cotes des Blancs.”
RICHARD JUHLIN, 4000 Champagnes: “The Peters family came originally from Luxembourg, before Pierre settled in Le Mesnil. The always smiling and tremendously skilful Francois Peters controls 17.5 hectares, twelve of which lie in the very best parts of Le Mesnil. Pierre Peters is a hidden treasure of champagne – so far anyway – and the prices are laughable considering the quality of the wines.”
