Description
Leading Barossa vintner, Kym Teusner has all bases covered from his impressive Rhone inspired reds .. he is all about his ingredients … top notch fruit from low yielding non-irrigated old Barossa vines with minimal winemaking intervention.
Bilmore Shiraz is sourced primarily from a single vineyard in Gomersal along the western ridge of the Barossa Valley where it produces richly flavoured wines with round mouth feel and plenty of delicious savoury characters and structure…the trademark of wines from this part of the Barossa Valley. ‘Roger Bilmore’ is the alter ego of one of their prized vineyard owners and this pays homage (through its quirky label!) to all their fine growers who have supported them over the years. This hands down wins for quality and value.
From the winemaker: “The 2021 Bilmore Shiraz is a rich and full flavoured wine with hints of ripe satsuma plums, blackberries, dark chocolate, and a hint of licorice spice. It’s a quintessential Barossan Shiraz, offering packed with ripe fruits and a pleasing tannin length that reflects the essence of the Barossa Valley.”
92 points, Dave Brookes for Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion “The ‘Roger Bilmore’ character on the label is the alter-ego of a bloke I once worked with at a winery. I still bear the scars. Western Ridge shiraz here with all the ironstone-flecked, black-fruited intensity that you’d expect. Blackberry, cassis, coal dust, roasting meats and deep, dark spice. Broody, serious, and deep … just like Roger himself, though he was a bit wilder and more unpredictable. Good, deeply resonant drinking.”
