Description
Derived from an ancient nautical term, “skuttlebutt” was the vessel of water at which people would gather to chat and from which the grapevine of social gossip did sprout. As such, the chance to catch up with friends over a glass of good wine is the perfect occasion for Skuttlebutt!
This fine Shiraz Cabernet blend comes from leading Margaret River winery Stella Bella and Red Winemaker of the Year (Campbell Mattinsons Big Red Wine Book). Found in the finest restaurants, Stella Bella wines were awarded the coveted 5 red star rating from James Halliday in his 2012 Wine Companion and have won countless awards and trophies at leading wine shows.
From their second label Skuttlebutt, the 2009 Shiraz Cabernet brims with blackberries, blood plums and spice balanced with ripe tannins, great length of flavour and well integrated French Oak (The Cabernet provides fine grained tannins, structure and minty complexity).
91 points Ray Jordan, The West Australian “Nice to see a value-for-money red with a bit of age on it at release. Warm and generous, medium-bodied fruit. Appealing mix of licorice, dark plum and spicy chocolate. The palate is soft and generous with plenty of structure and flavour. Excellent for drinking over the next couple of years.”
90 Points Gary Walsh, The Wine Front “Shiraz Cabernet from Margaret River is perhaps the road less travelled, but it seems to work pretty well there too. Mint and gum leaf, but in a nice sort of twiggy regional way, red and black fruit, bit of smoke. A wine of composure and even drinking charm – light tannin, soft medium bodied appeal and a clean finish. Nutty old oak is welcome. Much to like here, and admire, but mainly it’s just good drinking wine.”
