Description
Second label from Barossan cult producer, Spinifex (included in Best Value Wineries for 2018 by James Halliday in his 2018 Australian Wine Companion.) Renowned for their fastidious attention to detail, hands on winemaking and precision for blending… their wines are all about finesse and complexity. Made from the same parcels of fruit that go into the Spinifex wines, Miette is made in a more forward, open style meaning they are approachable right now! As winemaker Pete Schell says .. “the wines are all about freshness, purity and balance. Wines made for food, family and friends.”
Miette is the French word for crumbs, and while this label started its life crafted from the (delicious) off-cuts that fell from Spinifex’s top table, today the wine is made from fruit sourced specifically for this wine.
The core of the fruit came from six key vineyards in Ebenezer, Bethany, Tanunda and Moppa–serious Barossa terroirs that have delivered bold, honest and deep Shiraz flavours and structure. Schell has also blended in some wines from the higher country of the Barossa Ranges and Eden Valley to bring freshness.
All of the grapes were hand-harvested and fermented wild with approximately 20% whole bunches. Aging was undertaken in a range of French oak vessels of 225 to 2,500 litres capacity, and some in steel. The wine was bottled 20 months after vintage.
90 points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front “There’s a good body flavour to be tucked into here. It’s sweet fruited, all raspberry and plum, with clove and general spice notes tickling about the edges. It’s ripe/sweet and generally pretty simple but it has good, flow, feel and stuffing.”
