Description
Joint venture between old friends Domenic Torzi and Tim Freeland, Old Plains Wine Co source grapes grown from the last remaining old vine vineyards in the Adelaide Plains.
From the winemaker … “One of the best of its releases, showing that 2012 really was a tremendous vintage. Exhibits heady aromatics of sweet baking spices, earth and dark chocolate coated berries. Flavours continue to the palate with smoked cured meats, ripe raspberries and licorice. Finishing long, juicy with ripe fine tannins. Cellar potential 10 years.” This is gorgeous shiraz but when we first tasted this back in June 2014 this needed plenty of air to show all its colours!
93 points Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front “Old vine shiraz from the old grape growing district of the Adelaide Plains. Old school/new school. Hand picked, basket pressed, all French oak. The balance here is excellent. Fruit, alcohol, tannin, acid; all components team well. Earth and red/black berries, a general freshness, some sweetness but intriguing notes of coal, clove, undergrowth and tar. Sweetness of fruit wins the day but it’s a complex offering. It also feels ever-so-soft as it rolls through your mouth.”
93 points Andrew Graham, Oz Wine Review “…Sourced from some forgotten old vineyards in what is now outer Adelaide suburbia, the key here is that smoothness of texture that all of Dom’s reds show. Much of that comes from great fruit, but ably supported by carefully coiffed vanilla oak which adds further layers of milk chocolate decadence to the whole package … Leveraging to good effect the joy of ripe old vine Shiraz in a very good year, this is about the best advertisement for Adelaide Plains wines that I can think of.”
