Description
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Great Dividing Range in the Grampians region of Victoria Mount Langi Ghiran is undoubtably one of Australia’s greatest shiraz producers and consistently rated 5 Red Stars by James Halliday. Mount Langi Ghiran Cliff Edge Shiraz is second only to their flagship shiraz Mount Langi, 100% premium cool climate. Sourced from a selection of blocks across and different clones from the historic Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard where the combination of Langi’s cool climates, old vines and granite sands produce Shiraz with great intensity, purity and finesse.
About this release from the winemaker: “Though Victoria experienced one of its wettest springs on record, we were spared from such extreme weather conditions given our position on the Great Divide; keeping temperatures sufficiently cool and allowing free water to drain. Early hail events and unstable weather during flowering reduced yields, which was a positive outcome for quality as the bunches became more open. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the 2023 vintage will be one to remember.”

94 points, Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot “This comes from quite old vines on the granite soils of the Grampians. It’s a bright, tremendously lively, fragrant, and thoroughly appealing medium-bodied red. There’s an essence of purity, freshness and vibrancy from the first sniff through to the final combination of medium-weight sweet fruit, spices, licorice, and fine chalky tannin that pushes it through to a sustained finish.”
93 points, Jenni Port, Halliday Wine Companion “Totally accessible young Grampians shiraz with classic fragrant dark berries to the fore, matched evenly, aromatically with lifted minty-aniseed-peppery spice. It is both generous and bright in personality. The palate is delivered finely textured with fruit and spice running long.”
93 points, Aaron Brasher, The Real Review “Deep plummy red in the glass, youthful and vibrant. Fragrant aromas of Asian spice, white pepper, blueberry, soy, dried herbs and sarsaparilla. Deliciously bright, crunchy and punchy in flavour, with lashings of blue fruits, spice and nutty oak. Textured tannins and perky acidity bring it home very nicely.
