Mount Langi Ghiran Cliff Edge Shiraz is second only to their flagship shiraz Mount Langi, 100% premium cool climate. Sourced from a selection of blocks across and different clones from the historic Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard where the combination of Langi’s cool climates, old vines and granite sands produce Shiraz with great intensity, purity and finesse.
Winemaking: A combination of small open and large, open-top concrete fermenters. 100% Whole berry, wild yeasts, 14-month maturation in French barriques, 35% new.
Bright medium garnet. Blackberry, black cherries, vanilla, tar and baking spice. Raspberries, red currant, red liquorice and blackberry mix on the palate with baking spice and mocha notes. Pure, acid drive and silky tannins. Beautifully proportioned and gorgeously balanced.
94 points, Campbell Mattinson, James Halliday Australian Wine Companion “It’s spicy and well fruited but mostly it’s an exercise in putting all the various components exactly where they should be. Everything here feels exact, and exacting. Red cherried fruit, black pepper notes, integrated cedar oak and drifts of assorted florals, all of which hone to a long, peppery finish. It’s mid-weight at most and it’s all it needs to be. This is the kind of wine that gives elegance its good name.”
94 points, Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot “Beautiful, perfumed aromas greet from the start, cherry and dark plum with a spicy raspberry nuance. The palate is medium bodied and elegantly presented with those cherries and blackberry flavours emerging with a little sprinkle of pepper and dried herbs. The oak is well-weighted with the fine chalky tannins in support.”
93 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front “Black cherry, raspberry, five spice, a little cedar oak. It’s medium to full-bodied, with plenty of cherry and forest berry fruit flavour, a fine dusty/peppery feel to tannin, quite fresh, with maybe something a little more savoury in the aftertaste, like black olive. The length is good also. It’s a good Cliff Edge, and also a rock solid expression of regional Shiraz.”
