Description
Michel Chapoutier, one of France’s most revered, iconic winemakers has always been at the forefront of innovation. Since the early 90’s he has practiced biodynamic viticulture in all his vineyards ( indeed he is custodian of some of the finest vineyards of France). His name has become synonymous to quality and he over-delivers in all his wines.
Rhone valley’s famous hill of Hermitage renowned for robust syrah (granite soils) is on display here This 2005 Hermitage is stunning (terrific season in Hermitage and northern Rhone – 5 star rating by Decanter for Rhone Valley- classic vintage with structure – needs time or a good decanting if drinking now ( tasted August 2014) … tight on opening but day 2 it was singing! Serve with rich roast meat dishes.
Wine Spectator 94 points (Jul 31 2008) “A very minerally, driven style, with a strong iron-tinged spine driving the red and black currant, coffee, loam and dark licorice notes. This is tightly wound on the finish, so cellar to let it stretch out. Best from 2010 through 2020.”
90 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #175 (Feb 2008) … “The 2005 Ermitage La Sizeranne is a beauty. It is closed and in need of a good 6-8 years of bottle age, so don’t be impatient if you are going to buy this wine. Dense ruby/purple, with notes of graphite, creme de cassis, licorice, and crushed rocks, the wine is classic Ermitage. A very strong effort, it should last for 25-30 years.” RRP $115
