Description
Made by iconic Barossa vintner Troy Kalleske (7th generation Barossa grape growers and champions of sustainable viticulture) from prime Northern Barossa parcels of Greenock, Seppelstfield, Moppa, Stonewell and Ebenezer. This 60% Shiraz 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 18 months maturation in French and American oak comes from the exceptional growing season of 2012 – top Barossa vintage of the last 15 years. This full bodied red is plush with concentrated ripe blood plum, blackberries, some spice balanced by juicy acidity, fine grained tannins (thanks to the Cabernet), well integrated oak and kissed by some bottle age.
The grapes were harvested in several lots from late February to early April. The grapes were destemmed into open-top fermenters where twice-daily hand pump-overs gently extracted colour and flavour from the grapes. After 7-10 days on skins, the fermented grapes were pressed with a traditional press. Wine was then filled to barrel where completion of primary and malolactic fermentation took place, adding complex barrel ferment characters. The wines were matured in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak hogsheads for eighteen months before blending and bottling.
Bluemark Shiraz Cabernet 2012 is deep purple-black in colour. The enticing boquet is lifted with aromas of crème de cassis, dark cherry, cedar, bright spice and hints of earth. The palate is full-bodied and packed with flavour. Rich and flavoursome, red and black fruits open up to subtle background oak. There are dusty tannins but they are fine and well integrated adding structure. The finish is extremely lengthy completing this well balanced wine. Alc 14.5%
