Description
This Sicilian estate just an hour southwest of Palermo source fruit from around the ancient town of Gibellina and of course on Mt. Etna. Tenute Orestiadi is a project born of the Orestiadi Foundation, based in Gibellina, and a local co-op Cantine Ermes.
Sicily is an island with a long tradition of winemaking and Molino a Vento (Tenute Orestiadi) in the hills at Gibellina is a well-known vineyard. They grow indigenous Sicilian varietals. Unique Terroir characterized by different soils, different microclimates and different altitudes create selections of native single vineyards of Tenute Orestiadi.
“Quite simply, the wines of Sicily have never been better than they are right now. The combination of drastically diverse terroirs, a huge uptick in quality and a vast number of varieties has created an embarrassment of riches for the discerning wine lover.” Eric Guido, Vinous Media.
The name Nerello Mascalese originates from Mascali, a small village in the foothills of Mount Etna. Grown on black, silt rich, compacted soils 500 metres above sea level. Nerello Mascalese is at home at a high altitude and gives wines that are fragrant and mineral-driven. A gorgeous savoury rosato of nectarines and mediterranean citrus, fresh and fragrant red fruits and that signature hint of volcanic minerality and succulence that comes from Narello Mascalese.
