Description
Tellurian Wines certainly is a rising star of Victoria’s Heathcote wine region. Established in 2002 by Ian Hopkins and planting vineyards on western slopes of Mt Camel range overlooking township of Tolleen. Since first vintage produced in 2008 they have certainly hit the ground running. The ancient deep rich Cambrian soils of Heathcote and meticulous attention in the vineyard and winery under Tobias Ansted since 2006 are paying dividends – winning the coveted 5 star winery rating by James Halliday’s Wine Companion.
Inspired by the light, dry, savoury roses from Provence and Bandol, Tellurian Rosé combines grenache and shiraz for soft texture and light red fruit flavour, with mouvèrdre and nero d’avola for dry, fresh acidy and savoury influence.
About the 2023 by the winemakers: “Inspired by the light, dry, savoury roses from Provence, Tellurian Rosé combines grenache and shiraz for soft texture and light red fruit flavour, with mouvèrdre and nero d’avola for dry, fresh acidy and savoury influence. Certified Organic.
“Shiraz, grenache, nero d’avola and mourvèdre from our Tellurian vineyard growing in Cambrian soils formed over 500 million years. Deep, rich, decomposed greenstone rock and limestone with soil depths up to 2m allow roots to reach deep, while relatively low fertility controls vigour and yield. Grapes hand picked and gently whole bunch pressed, then the juice was pressed to tank. Fermented in seasoned French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. The wine remained on yeast lees in barrel and tank for three months prior to racking, stabilisation and bottling.
Pale salmon colour with rose hues. Fresh aromas red berry, cranberry, red currant are complimented by savoury mineral characters of flinty and struck match. Red berry fruit flavours carry onto the palate and combine with dry, savoury, soft chalky texture.” 14% alc.
