Description
Rimauresq in the heart of Provence, mid way between Nice and Marseille, takes its name from Real Mauresque river which flows through the vineyards. Due to its unique microclimate and terroir, Rimauresq is one of a select group of Côtes de Provence vineyards awarded 1er Cru Classé status in 1955, a classification mirroring that of the great Bordeaux châteaux and based on the quality of the wines and heritage of the properties. This historic estate produces some of the most sought after Roses of Provence.
This flagship Rose the “R” rose comprises the finest quality fruit meticulously selected 70 year old vines to give extra depth and minerality from a blend of Grenache Noir (40%), Cinsault (30%) and Syrah (12%), Rolle (10%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (8%) to provide perfumed complexity. A combination of mechanical and manual fruit harvesting is carried out during the early morning to benefit from the low night temperatures. Bunches are then crushed, de-stemmed then the grapes undergo cold maceration on their skins for several hours prior to fermentation at a low temperature. Grapes are pressed and the free run juice separated. Only natural yeasts are used and after fermentation the wines are left on their lees for the winter with regular batonnage, providing mouthfeel and complexity. The wines do not undergo malolactic fermentation so as to preserve their acidity, nor is there any oak maturation.
The result is a gorgeously aromatic rose with layers of juicy red fruits, citrus, jasmine that unfold to a palate of ravishing mineral complexity. Its dry more-ish, delicious and up there with the finest Provencal roses you will taste.
