Description

Dominique Portet was established following 10 consecutive generations of winemaking in the Portet family, stretching back to the 18th century. Dominique went to start his own dream and established Taltarni in 1976 then later Clover Hill in north-east Tasmania. Ben Portet is now at the winemaking helm and, like many Australian-born winemakers, spent time overseas to experience other terroirs, including vintages at Louis Roederer and Warwick Estate in South Africa.

Fontaine Rosé, the staple of the Portet’s huge impact on the industry is a beautiful blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Shiraz and 10% Cabernet.  Long regarded as Australia’s first true Provence style – and arguably most successful – dry Rosé. Red berries are joined with bright citrus on the palate from the Merlot and Shiraz, with Cabernet delivering the intensity and drive on the finish.

About this wine from the winemaker:  Light, lively and full of character. Redcurrant, strawberry and citrus flow into a bright, refreshing palate, carried by subtle savoury notes and a smooth, polished texture that keeps you reaching for another sip.

“Handpicked fruit was gently pressed to keep the wine bright and delicate. Merlot adds softness, Shiraz brings spice and Cabernet Sauvignon gives structure and drive. Cool fermentation keeps the style crisp and vibrant.

“Sourced from our cool sites across the Yarra Valley, where vibrant acidity, perfume and delicacy come naturally. These parcels give the wine its lifted aromatics and quietly confident structure.

“Merlot brings softness, Shiraz adds spice and generosity, while Cabernet Sauvignon delivers shape and drive. Together, they create a rosé of clarity, charm and subtle complexity.

“2025 season unfolded with a cool, wet spring before giving way to an intensely dry summer that accelerated ripening and concentrated flavour. The result was fruit bursting with brightness and aromatic lift, while the Yarra Valley’s cool nights maintained the freshness, balance and elegance that define our style.”

Newly released!  Reviews for 2024: 93 points, Philip Rich for James Halliday Australian Wine Companion “.. With its aromas of red fruits and spice and gently textured, bone-dry palate, this go-to Yarra rosé is always bang on the money.”

93 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front “.. Redcurrant, rosehip, peach. It’s a delicate wine, crisp and fine-boned, subtle peach tea and tangerine bite to acidity, with a gentle powdery finish of good length. It’s not the most complex style of rosé (and doesn’t need to be) but it is lovely to drink.”
