Description
Dominique Portet was established following 10 consecutive generations of winemaking in the Portet family, stretching back to the 18th century. Dominique went to start his own dream and established Taltarni in 1976 then later Clover Hill in north-east Tasmania. Ben Portet is now at the winemaking helm and, like many Australian-born winemakers, spent time overseas to experience other terroirs, including vintages at Louis Roederer and Warwick Estate in South Africa.
Fontaine Rosé, the staple of the Portet’s huge impact on the industry is a beautiful blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Shiraz and 10% Cabernet. Long regarded as Australia’s first true Provence style – and arguably most successful – dry Rosé. Red berries are joined with bright citrus on the palate from the Merlot and Shiraz, with Cabernet delivering the intensity and drive on the finish.
All the fruit is hand picked before gently crushing and pressing. It’s then fermented into stainless steel tanks for freshness and lees are then stirred regularly to give the wine it’s soft texture and bright mouthfeel. In true Provence fashion, this wine is a pretty, light pink-bronze colour.
This pale salmon Rosé is bursting with aromas of peach, strawberry, watermelon and blossom. Palate is dry with crisp, mouthwatering acidity and a beautiful long finish with flavours of peach, nectarine, pink grapefruit and red berries. A powerful but refined Rosé. Perfect partner for a range of dishes and occasions.

93 points, Philip Rich for James Halliday Australian Wine Companion “.. With its aromas of red fruits and spice and gently textured, bone-dry palate, this go-to Yarra rosé is always bang on the money.”
93 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front “.. Redcurrant, rosehip, peach. It’s a delicate wine, crisp and fine-boned, subtle peach tea and tangerine bite to acidity, with a gentle powdery finish of good length. It’s not the most complex style of rosé (and doesn’t need to be) but it is lovely to drink.”
