Description
“The Marsannay roses, made from pinot noir, are among the very best in the world with clean, fresh, crisp fruit and flavors with solid balancing acidity and a bone dry finish.” Allen Meadows aka Burghound.
Marsannay is a relatively new Burgundy appellation (created in 1987) but an ancient and well respected source of fine wine. It is located south of Dijon at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits just a few villages past Gevrey-Chambertin. The producers of Marsannay have worked hard to establish its reputation after years of quasi-abandonment with remarkable results in the last 20 to 25 years. Even though there has been an influx of producers from Gevrey Chambertin and Vosne Romanee buying into and unlocking the potential of these wonderful terroirs there is still great value to be had in the wines of Marsannay.
Philippe Collotte has taken over the family holdings (one of the original old families of Marsannay) of fully mature vineyards in prime position above the village. He has also recently purchased some mature vineyards of 40 years age in both Gevrey Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. This a source of very attractively priced red Burgundy from a young producer who is making great strides in the quality of wines produced.Marsannay Rosé is long-standing cultural tradition in Burgundy with Marsannay being the only village to have the appellation for a rosé.
