Delamere Vineyards is one of Tasmania’s longest running family owned and operated wine estates, focused on producing distinguished sparkling (Methode Traditionelle) and still wines from the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varieties. Nestled amongst the cool maritime slopes of Pipers River (north eastern Tasmania in the Tamar valley) the vineyard was first established in 1982 placing it amongst the oldest vineyards in the region. With 6.5ha of grapes now established on the property, the age of the vineyard makes it a rare resource in Tasmania, and valuable due to the significant increase in wine quality associated with mature vines. The winery is owned and run by husband and wife vigneron’s Shane Holloway and Fran Austin (formerly of Bay of Fires).
From winery: ” Around two-thirds of the fruit for the 2018 Rosé was harvested from two of our Pinot Noir blocks selected specifically with this style in mind. The fruit was hand harvested, whole bunch pressed and fermented at low temperatures to retain freshness and the delicate enticing aromatics typical of Pinot Noir from our site. The remaining third of the blend is a saignée parcel from the production of the Delamere Pinot Noir. This adds depth of colour, structure and complexity to this delicious dry rosé… Floral with notes of Turkish apricot and peach on the nose, following through with a crisp acidity reminiscent of fresh raspberries and grapefruit. Juicy and lifted, this wine is a great example of the 2018 vintage.”
2018 was very a good vintage although an early vintage – produced solid crop levels with gorgeous flavour intensity, coupled with racy acidity.
