Description
“It is almost impossible to put into words the significance of Madame Lalou Bize Leroy and her Domaine Leroy estate in the world of wine. Clive Coates MW poses the rhetorical question “Is this the greatest estate in Burgundy? ” and answers How do you determine great? Is it size? Is it quality? Is it price? Is it reputation? Is it the amount of media cover age? However, you do compute it, the greatest domaines of Burgundy today must be those under the control of Lalou Bize, The Domaine Leroy and her own Domaine d ‘Auvenay. The estates of Jadot, Faiveley and Bouchard Pere et Fils are far larger, that of Romani Conti the most splendid in terms of percentage of grand terroir but for nobility of it ‘s wines, pride of place must go to Leroy and to Domaine d ‘Auvenay. The sheer concentration. depth and intensity that Lalou Bize manages to squeeze into her bottles is breathtaking. ”
This 2014 is quite structured with plenty of aromas/flavours of dark fruits with briary forest floor characters. Very high quality wine this is no ordinary Bourgogne.. but this is Leroy, renowned for muscular and powerful wines. Elegance and poise with firm tannins on the palate. Pinot Noir at its finest…. Decant if drinking now perhaps or lay down in cellar
From winery: “The powerful but pretty Maison Leroy Bourgogne Rouge 2014 was released a year later than the ’15 as Madame felt it needed more time. Shades of both light and dark, with coolness at the same time as brooding, dark earthy tones. Spicy cherry and blackberry fruit over gravel. Good sense of depth to the palate, which has immediate power and firm acidity to kick it along. Chewy but fine tannins frame the palate of this modern and fresh Bourgogne Rouge with substance and presence.” RRP $176
