Description
The stunning French Alpine region of Savoie is known for its beautiful freshwater lakes and snow capped mountains. The wines of Domaine de Chatillon are produced from plots overlooking the Lac de Bourget and are vibrant, fresh and clean wines that convey their alpine origins. Offering an exciting introduction to this dynamic region, the label pays homage to the 11th Century Castle overlooking the lake.
This is the French Alps project of Ed Peter, owner of Australia’s Yarra Yering. Vines up to 40 years of age grown in Chautagne area of Savoie close to Lac de Bourget which used to be called “Chatillon” south east of Annecy in the French Alps. The Chautagne area of Savoie enjoys warmer daytime climate (with alpine cold nights) and the only area in Savoie where red wines are dominant with Gamay comprising 50% of production (with Mondeuse & Pinot Noir the remainder).
Organic viticultural practices (uncertified), 100% estate grown fruit, handpicking and hands off winemaking practices in the winery: wild yeasts, some solids in ferments.
Juicy Pinot Noir with plenty of mountain freshness from Savoie… what is not to love about this little treat for quality and value.
“Vibrant ruby and magenta colour with lifted aromas of maraschino cherries and alpine strawberries and a lovely subtle scent of lavender. The palate is soft and juicy with primary flavours such as fruits of the forest including boysenberries and strawberries with a touch of wood spice on the finish.” Winery notes.
