Description

Yangarra Estate is a biodynamic vineyard and winery in McLaren Vale’s Blewitt Springs, specialising in southern Rhône varieties, with estate-grown Grenache and Shiraz at its core. First planted in 1946 (High Sands Grenache vines), the vineyard spans 170 hectares, with 84 hectares of vines rooted in ancient geology. Its unique terroir, combining altitude, ironstone and sand rich soils and maritime influences produces exceptional wines. Recognised with over 250 scores of 95+ in the past decade, Yangarra has twice won Halliday Wine Companion’s Wine of the Year, top rankings on JamesSuckling.com and received a 2024 Great Wine Capitals Best of Wine Tourism Award for their new cellar door.

The Yangarra Circle collection, showcases the vibrant and refreshing expression of Southern Rhône varietals. Perfect for casual dining and ready to enjoy, these wines are simply delicious and stay true to the exceptional quality of estate-grown, biodynamic fruit from the award-winning McLaren Vale vineyard.

This collection is crafted with a lifestyle focus, offering a youthful, approachable style. Produced with younger vines, minimal oak, and lighter alcohol, the Circle Collection wines are ideal for sharing and enjoying with a range of cuisines.

About this wine from the winery: Bright, fresh, and fruit-driven, this vibrant Nouveaux-style Grenache is crafted to be enjoyed in its youth. With refreshing acidity, lively fruit, and floral aromas, it’s an easy-drinking wine with a touch of tannin for balance. Juicy and medium bodied, it pairs perfectly with your favourite dumplings. Grown in the cooler, elevated northeast of McLaren Vale, this Grenache captures the essence of our single estate vineyard.

“100% estate grown Grenache Noir, bush vines predominantly planted 2008. Hand-picked, destemmed and selectively sorted with 50% whole berries retained, tipped to open-top fermenters. Wild fermentation in stainless steel, gentle maceration on skins for approximately 15 – 21 days before pressing. 5 months maturation on lees in stainless steel and old French oak puncheons and foudre. Bottled September 2024. Certified Organic and Biodynamic.

“A normal wet winter was followed by a picturesque dry spring. The long range weather patterns indicated a shift from La Niña towards El Niño, which favours drier and hotter conditions. In these warmer seasons, we adjust our practices to encourage slightly higher yields and more canopy cover. However, the unexpected summer rainfall in December and January presented a unique challenge, resulting in larger bunches and berry development. Warm conditions prevailed through February and early March, promoting ripening of flavours and sugars with the balance we were aiming for. The warmth led to an intense couple of weeks, during which we harvested the majority of the grapes.”

95 points, Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion This is the younger vine bottling, coming mainly off vines planted in ’08. Up to three weeks on skins; maturation in steel and old puncheons and foudre. This is a nice foil to the Old Vine bottling, showing what relatively youthful vines can do on this great site. There’s an open red-berried and cherry fruitfulness, with red florals supported by savoury spice and a foundation of purposeful natural tannin. This doesn’t have the mineral depth of the Old Vine, but the fruit vibrancy and exuberance yield their own rewards.”
