“Little would we know that when Marcel Lapierre took over the family domaine from his father in 1973, he was on the road to becoming a legend. Following the example of traditionalist Jules Chauvet, Marcel and three other local vignerons Jean Foillard, Jean-Paul Thévenet, and Guy Breton, soon hoisted the flag of Chauvet’s back-to-nature movement. Kermit dubbed this clan the Gang of Four, and the name has stuck ever since. The Gang called for a return to the old practices of viticulture and vinification. Sadly, the 2010 vintage was Marcel’s last. His children, Mathieu and Camille continue the great work that their father pioneered, introducing biodynamic vineyard practices and ensuring that Marcel’s legacy lives on.” Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant
“M & C Lapierre is one of the most storied estates in Beaujolais. Matthieu and Camille Lapierre are consistently producing wines at an extremely high level of quality, among the best in the region. Their 2019s are true standouts in this excellent vintage, which has produced no small number of excellent wines … Demand for the Lapierre wines keeps on a steady ascent, given that this is an iconic estate, in one of the best crus of a historically renowned region, and the quality of the wines is at an extremely high level.” Josh Reynolds, Vinous Media, Aug 2021.
The Domaine’s flagship bottling. A selection of the domaine’s oldest vines—more than a century in age—including prime parcels on Morgon’s imposing Côte du Py. Deep structure, with a finesse that pampers the palate. Seamless and weightless, this is truly sublime cru Beaujolais. – Anthony Lynch, Kermit Lynch.
Pinnacle of Cru Beaujolais that is for certain .. concentration, brooding concentration of fruit and haunting aromatics. Only made in the best vintages and yes rivals Burgundy’s Cote d’Or.
95 points, Josh Reynolds, Vinous Media “Saturated violet. A highly perfumed and complex bouquet features intense red and blue fruit, incense, potpourri and musky earth qualities and a smoky mineral note that builds with air. Displays a compelling blend of depth and vivacity to the sweet black raspberry, mulberry and cherry liqueur flavors, which show superb definition and back-end lift. The floral and spice notes drive a strikingly long and gently chewy finish that echoes the cherry note and is framed by slowly building tannins.”
