Description
Hamelin Bay’s symbol is the heraldic beast called a wyvern, which is shown in full sway or rampant on this label. It suggests the wine has an exuberant spirit and lively character. Margaret River in 2011 had a very early, warm dry vintage but of very high quality, the precise opposite to the disastrous wet weather of the eastern states. This fine medium to full bodied red blend of 75% Shiraz, 14% Cabernet, 11% Merlot (matured in French Oak) from Margaret River goes down too easily thanks to a couple of years bottle age. Rich flavours of dark fruits, cherries, tobacco leaf and spice with lush fruit and more-ish fine grained tannins .. This shows the colours beautifully of yet another great season in Margaret River. Reminds me of classic Margaret River cabernet merlot. This is singing now offering terrific drinking up to end 2017 at a bargain price! Be snappy !
93 points James Halliday and listed in his Top 100 wines for 2014 ...”Bright hue; a 75/14/11% blend with an expressive bouquet of spicy black and red fruits, the elegant palate with a full range of cassis, redcurrant and plum; fine-grained tannins are in a precisely pitched support role, plus some cedary oak.”
