Description
Winemaker, David Hook “cut his teeth” along side Murray Tyrrell, worked at Lakes Folly and widely as a flying winemaker in France and Spain. With 30 years experience, he makes exceptional wines with regional and varietal character to reflect the place of origin. ‘Hooky’s’ decade in the northern hemisphere initiated his passion for italian varieties
This fine Barbera (native grape of Piedmont, Italy) was sourced from mature 20 year old free draining vines from the Hunter Valley’s Molly Morgan Ranges in Lovedale. Molly Morgan was an infamous bush ranger and publican. 2014 was a dream growing season which has been heralded a ‘vintage of a generation in the Hunter in 2014′. Bruce Tyrell said of 2014 vintage: “Well this is possibly the best of both this, and last century!”
Fruit quality was so impressive in 2014 (normally blended with fruit from Orange) that this fine wine had to be showcased on its own. The Italian red varieties of barbera and sangiovese are so refreshing – they naturally retain more acidity than shiraz and cabernet.
This beautiful medium weight ‘Rosso’ cries out for fine lasagne and italian fare with mouthwatering purity of dark cherry fruit, spice, lip smacking raspberry tang, perfectly pitched acidity and fine grained silky tannins. 13%Alc. Be quick and order ‘pronto’ – there is not a lot to go around!
