Description

“These were absolutely superb expressions of traditional Beaujolais: serious wines that I suspect will age as well as their more expensive counterparts further north in the Côte de Nuits. They represent outstanding value in the current market…” Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
“This tiny wine grower of the hamlet of Corcelette… has seduced us for a few years now with his concentrated and textured Morgons. The fruit weight in no way masks the almost wild minerality of the soil. These wines have an intensity that can only come from old vines that are impeccably cultivated…The domaine has produced a 2014 vintage of real quality. The level is superb and the wines are currently imbued with juicy fruit and sincerity.” La Revue du Vins de France
Daniel Bouland is a  fourth-generation Morgon grower and his tiny (only 8 ha!) vineyard is now recognised as one of Beaujolais’ yardstick addresses.
From the importer:  “Bouland’s most structured and age worthy wine comes from a single hectare of 90-year-old vines located between Corcelette and Villié-Morgon. Planted in 1926 on a south-east facing slope at 10,000 vines per hectare by Bouland’s grandfather, this steep parcel was historically known as Délys, and lies on Morgon’s ochre-tinted, decomposed schist soils. The pungent minerality and ferrous notes point directly to Morgon central, although there is also incredible finesse and seduction in 2014. It starts with a lifted perfume of mulberries, black cherries and fresh cut roses and leads to a palate drenched in similar characters but also complex hints of liquorice, blood, smoke and mint. On one level, the wine is intense and tightly knit, yet the structural depth is balanced by a seductive, deep core of fruit. It has a texture of the kind that we have not seen before in this cuvee at such a young age. It is super pure, textured and stylish, yet at the same time deep and clearly age worthy. It’s the kind of Morgon that can’t help but remind us that we are still in Burgundy (but a part of Burgundy where there is still a lot of great value). In short, a very serious Morgon. Don’t. Miss. It. ”
