Description
The Fratelli Cigliuti winery is situated on the Serraboella hill, some 350 metres above sea level overlooking Neive, one of the most spectacularly beautiful medieval villages of Barbaresco. Renato inherited his father’s 6.5 hectare property which remains family owned and run and is now into its fifth generation with daughters Claudia and Sylvia. Winemaking techniques lean towards the traditional. Estate-grown, handpicked grapes are fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel, then aged in larger Slavonian oak barrels along with some barriques. Dolcetto and Nebbiolo grapes grow in the calcareous soils of the southwest-facing vineyards, while Barbera is cultivated on clayey sites with a south-eastern exposure. The wines show great complexity, minerality and personality.
“Cigliuti is arguably the most under the radar estate in Barbaresco when it comes to looking at the wines and comparing quality with visibility in the market… Silvia and Claudia [Cigliuti] continue to turn out absolutely gorgeous wines. “ – Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
93 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media “The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo is an absolute delight. Aromatic, nuanced and fleshy, Cigliuti’s Langhe Nebbiolo outperforms pretty much most of its peer group, showing notable depth as well as pedigree. This is a very serious wine. Then again, the Langhe Nebbiolo is a cask of Barbaresco Via Erte that simply sees a shorter aging regime than the Barbaresco itself. It is one of the hidden gems in Piedmont.” September 2021
