Description

“… Bruno Rocca is without question one of the hottest estates in Barbaresco right now. And my feeling is that Francesco Rocca (Bruno’s son and Luisa’s brother) is just getting started.”  Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media.

In the late 1950s, Bruno Rocca’s father Francesco, and his wife Maria Adelaide purchased a vineyard in Rabajà and moved there from the centre of Barbaresco. This marked the beginning, in particular for Bruno, who from a very early age began to view the grapes as the true expression of the land. In 1978 Bruno decided to carve out a new direction, rather than selling the grapes to large Barbaresco producers, Bruno began to sell bottled wine on the Italian and world stage. The philosophy of wine as the natural expression of the Barbaresco territory was widely appreciated, and with the estate’s gradual growth came the purchase of new plots of land and the expansion of the cellar, which continues today with Bruno’s children Francesco and Luisa now both closely involved in all aspects of the wine production and sales respectively. Organic farming with certification ; 100% estate grown fruit; minimal intervention and sparing use of French oak usually less than 10% new oak across production. The Bruno Rocca company philosophy is clear, as Rocca himself affirms: “Wine is the mirror and soul of the ground, and the territory, if protected and defended, it will never let you down.”

96 points’ Antonio Galloni Vinous Media  “Rocca’s 2013 barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is just as compelling from bottle as it was from cask. Deep, penetrating aromatics meld into a core of dark red fruit in a deep, translucent Barbaresco endowed with nuance and pedigree. A wine of dimension, breadth and power, the 2013 has it all. The tannins need time to soften, but that won’t come as a surprise. Hints of kirsch, rose petal and mint add shades of complexity. There is an element of classicism in the 2013 that is so well suited to Rabajà as a site. drink 2020 – 2033″
96 pts, Monica Larner, The Wine AdvocateHere is another first for Bruno Rocca: a Riserva expression from the family’s most celebrated vineyard site. The 2013 NEBNBarbaresco Riserva Rabajà is a phenomenal achievement that aunts an impeccable degree of focus and precision. We tasted this wine from two bottles, and this review is based on the second sample, which was superior to the first. The results here are articulate and coherent. Aromas of dark fruit, spice, tar and crushed mineral are tied tightly together with strength and harmony. This cooler vintage shows some tightness in terms of the wine’s tannic structure, and I’m sure we will feel that tightness for years to come. This is a bottle that needs more time in the cellar.29th Jun 2018
