Description

Bel Colle is a benchmark producer from the historical comune of Verduno in Barolo. They farm 10 hectares with sustainable viticulture and eschew the use of any synthetic treatments, with the vineyards worked by hand & only organic preparations used. They are the proud custodians of some of the finest vineyards in the area including Monvigliero which is considered the Grand Cru of Verduno. Bel Colle also are famous for producing Pelaverga which is a vibrant, light on its feet red that is a specialty of Verduno that is rare and delicious.

Monvigliero has always been considered the “Grand Cru” of the commune of Verduno, as well as one of the most prestigious vineyards of the entire appellation. A natural amphitheater facing southwest characterized by a particularly dry climate and light, loose soils that push the vines to give their best. From Monvigliero come iconic Barolos for finesse and elegance that, while not renouncing a hint of austerity, prove to be true sons of the Verduno lands thanks to one of the widest and most complex aromatic ranges of the entire appellation, played in particular on notes of flowers and spices.

Vinification with fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, post fermentation maceration, and racking after 22-25 days, racking and malolactic fermentation completed with the maintenance of the temperature. A long period of maturation in large oak barrels with subsequent rest in bottle.Ageing: 6 months on its own yeasts.

On the nose, the bouquet brings the typical notes of red fruits, plums and cherries, and spices, such as pepper. On the palate, it is delicate, velvety and well-balanced with its fresh acidity.

95 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine FrontMonvigliero would be, maybe, in my top 10 crus in Barolo. It’s specific, and now highly prized, which is as it should be. Perfumed, but earthy and ferrous, dark cherry, mint, leaning towards liquorice, with a fair bit of spice. It’s medium to full-bodied, fresh and gently sappy, crushed rock tannin, red fruit, dark cherry and quite some mouth-perfume, but also dense and concentrated, despite its vivacity. There’s some sage and mint, and the finish is tight, long and focussed, with dusty tannin grip, new leather and quiet succulence. Very good. Very.”
