Description

The Zema family planted their 61 hectare vineyard in 1982 on the Coonawarra terra rossa strip. 100 % estate grown fruit (very low yields) ensures wines of exceptional depth of flavour true to the Coonawarra terroir. If ever there is an example of great wines being made in the vineyard, Zema is it!  This highly regarded and awarded producer was not only given the elusive 5 star winery rating by Halliday but also best of the region.

Classic Coonawarra cabernet merlot… juicy ripe fruit, hint  of mint and leafiness with  good complexity and earthy depth. Enjoy this medium bodied red.

It’s fresh, lightly floral perfume of cassis, raspberries and restrained dusty, cedary oak reveals nuances of fresh mint, dried herbs and a hint of liniment. Supported by fine, drying tannins with just a hint of edginess, it’s smooth and juicy, with flavours of cassis and sweet red berries wrapped in a tight acidity. Give it time.” 

91 points The Wine Front  “It’s one of the best releases of Cluny I have tried. It’s ripe, well balanced, has a good spread of tannin and yet feels supple in the mouth. Nice work. Flavours of red and blackberries, mint, an infusion of creamy oak. Will drink well either young or to the medium term.”
