We’ve just received the lastest release from Marschall Groom Cellars of their stunning 2007 Sauvignon Blanc. More tropical and mouthfilling and less pungent than those Kiwi Sav Blancs! It might be winter but lets face it we are blessed here in Sydney with crisp dry sunny days. One always needs the appropriate white for a long winter lunch and here at The Vine Press, we think the Groom Sav Blanc 07 is it!
For the uninitiated, Daryl Groom was the Penfolds winemaker for years and has spent the last decade as chief winemaker at Geyser peak in the Napa. His sister and brother-in-law David look after their vineyards in Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills and Kalimna in the Barossa. Daryl Groom comes home regularly to make the wines. His wines are rich and elegant – he does not do jammy, tannic or oaky wines. Another 5 Stars from James Halliday! Intensity and balance is what Groom’s wines are about and they are the Best of the Barossa!
