hamelin bay is margaret rivers leading chardonnay and sav blanc producer

It was 1982 on his 25th birthday that Hamelin Bay Wine’s proprietor Richard Drake-Brockman from a long established Western Australian family, trekked down to Margaret River from Perth to stay with a mate who just happened to live and work at Leewin Estate. He stayed in a little country cottage overlooking the beautuful countryside and vineyard and sampled some of the regions best from his freinds cellar.  It was this experience which planted the seed which led to a search for the right property to establish Hamelin Bay Wines.  It didn’t happen overnight mind you, for starters he couldn’t afford to do it instantly and it is now exactly another 25 years later that Richard can look back with pride in the acheivement.  They are now the leading Karridale vineyard which is the home of Margaret River’s best chardonnay and sauvignon blanc.

But don’t just take Rhys Connery from Sydney on-line wine retailer The Vine Press’s word for it. Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine and one of the worlds leading wine experts, or as Rhys likes to call her – the queen of wine!, commended Hamelin Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2007 at her 2008 Australia Day tasting  As minerally and tangy, structured and mouthwatering.  We agree – and love it to wash down some fine oysters!
