Description
Les Vignerons d’Estézargues is a small, innovative co-operative in the little town of Estézargues (20 kms west of Avignon) with an excellent reputation for quality. Just 10 members with 400 hectares of scattered quality vineyards. Winemaker, Denis Deschamps champions ‘natural’ winemaking ie natural yeasts, minimal additions including sulphites and avoiding fining and filtration in the wines. It is a bold approach for a co-operative but the quality results are there for all to enjoy.
The co-op was originally founded in 1965 and it wasn’t until the 1990s that they demanded quality in the vineyard and began bottling individual cuvées and terroirs from particular sites and vinifying grower’s grapes separately. The next step was taken with the arrival of Denis Deschamps.
The name came about because the wine is sourced from both banks of the Rhône with grenache coming mainly from the left bank (Rive Gauche) and the syrah from the well-placed village of Daumazan, near Tavel on the right bank (Rive Droite).
This is delicious medium bodied rouge (60% grenache 30% Syrah 10% Mourvedre and Cinsault 14% Alc) is a winner with purity of fruit, concentration, spice and juicy liveliness that cries out for more! Enjoy this now and if you can resist over the next few years. If this fine Cotes du Rhone won’t get you singing La Marseillaise nothing will! A ‘natural ‘ wine bursting with purity, depth of fruit, balance and bargain price tag. Do not hesitate to snare a case of this!
